There are only two ways to remove cherished number plates from a vehicle. One way is to transfer them straight to another vehicle using a DVLA transfer form and a fee of £80, both vehicles must be taxed and tested.The other way is to put the number on retention, this costs £105 and the car must still be taxed and tested, the number can then remain on retention for 12 months and can be extended for a fee of £25. When you are redy to put it onto another vehicle there is no transfer fee, you paid it when you retained the registration.
