How much can I get for ad space on my website?

I’m got to make some money soon, so I am thinking that maybe I will try to earn some on the internet. I have a website, and I am wondering how much I might be able to make by selling ad space on my website. Can anyone tell me more about how I can go about this? Are there websites with webmaster resources that I can check out that would teach me what I need to know? I am hoping that I can start out selling these ads and then hopefully find some other way to make money as well.
