Show, Don’t Tell

I think one of the best bits of advice in learning how to write a resume that gets results is, “Show, don’t tell.” Anyone can pepper her resume with buzz words like “organized”, “self-starter”, “creative”, “leader”, etc., but such words are absolutely meaningless without the support of details. For instance, instead of simply telling the reader, “I am ambitious,” show: “I was promoted to management within three months of employment.” In place of, “excellent typing skills,” you would write, for example, “60 gross words per minute.” You want to use methods of resume writing that effectively communicate your skills and experience so that you stand out in the crowd, not blend in with it.
