The Link Between Alcohol and Abuse

Does drinking necessarily lead to abuse?  Probably not, but abusive drinking is so common that the term “abuse and alcohol” seems to be forever interlinked.  Indeed, drinking problems arise when a person starts to drink repetitively and when he or she drinks more that his or her body can metabolize.  Under these circumstances, even getting drunk just a few times per year can be dangerous and can actually lead to a fatal alcohol overdose.  Think about this for a moment.  Without alcohol abuse, there would be few if any instances of alcohol addiction, fetal alcohol syndrome, and alcohol-related fatalities.  Somehow, someway, we have to get the message to all people that excessive and abusive drinking does absolutely nothing that can be classified as healthy, helpful, or positive.
