The Signs of Alcoholism and the Need for a Jolt of Reality
October 31st, 2008 by admin
Roger and Steven were the same age and lived on the same street. Not surprisingly, they went to the same high school and hung out with the same group of people. They lived their lives like most high school students until they decided to start associating with a group of older guys who hung out at the local pool hall. Even though they were underage, Roger and Steven somehow managed to drink as much or more than the other guys. The problem was that Roger and Steven were still in school. Staying out late and drinking until the early hours of the morning wasn’t very conducive to getting up early and going to school. After maintaining about a year of this lifestyle, problems began to emerge in virtually every aspect of their lives. They got kicked out of school for coming to class drunk and they got arrested more than a few times for stealing. Moreover, they got into a number of fights. And finally, their health started going downhill quite rapidly. An objective observer could see the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse in virtually everything Roger and Steven did, but since they were so close to the situation, they were blind to the problems that were caused by their drinking. Unless they were to receive a jolt of reality real soon it was obvious that Roger and Steven were headed to jail, to the hospital, or to the morgue.
