If you know someone who is preparing to go off to college but don’t know what to get them, in addition to giving them useful gadgets, like printer, I would also recommend giving simple gifts, such as a cleaning kit. As a college student, I know how frustrating it is to beg around asking to borrow someone else’s vacuum when I want to clean my own room.
