If you love learning about ancient cultures and spending time in nature, don’t miss the Hopewell Culture National Historic Park in Ohio.  Several earthen structures or mounds created by the Hopewell people are located in the Park.  In addition to studying the mounds and Hopewell artifacts, visitors can explore the beautiful and diverse natural habitats within the Park.  A visit to the Hopewell Culture National Park is the best way to learn about the fascinating culture and historical significance of the Hopewell people. Archaeological evidence indicates the huge mounds at the Park were used in ceremonies and social gatherings from 200 BC to AD 500.  Artifacts and other information revealed during excavations at the mounds provides fascinating insights into how the Hopewell lived and prospered for many centuries. The many different habitats at the Hopewell Culture National Park present visitors with a very unique opportunity to see a tremendous variety of plants and animals.  This is a terrific area for birding and bat watching, and you can also see a variety of other mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects throughout the Park.
