Tours Operators Vacations: A Short History
August 6th, 2008 by admin
Originally, the term "tour operators vacations" meant specifically to the lengthy breaks taken by law courts and universities (specifically in the United Kingdom) during summer and this custom was first introduced by William the Conqueror from Normandy who purposely suggested such event to facilitate the grape harvest. Meanwhile, the French term is much closer in meaning to the American English translation: "Les Vacance." This term derives from the fact that not so long ago, upper-class families would literally move to a summer home for a part of the year (their version of tours operators vacations) – leaving their usual family home vacant until they return. As for holiday, it is a contraction of the words holy and day – holidays originally represented special religious days but then, this word has evolved in general usage to mean any special day of rest (as opposed to regular days of rest such as the weekend).
